Dynadot and NameSilo are two underdogs among domain registrars. They both have millions of domains under their management, but they aren’t as popular as other bigger registrars.
I’ve used both Dynadot and NameSilo as my domain registrar, and here’s my quick review:
User Interface
Dynadot has a neat and modern interface that I personally like. It’s intuitive and the domain management dashboard is easy to work with.
NameSilo’s dashboard is a little dated. They recently did a redesign of the website, but some parts of the dashboard are still old. Overall, it’s functional and simple enough, but it could use some updates.
Domain Pricing
Dynadot is one of the cheapest domain registrars I’ve used. Both registration and renewal prices are on the lower end. They rarely increase their prices, unlike several other registrars I used.
NameSilo has reasonable prices, but it used to be cheaper. They increased the price of .com from about $11 to about $17. Other TLDs also had a significant price hike.
The following is a comparison of the registration and renewal prices of some TLDs at Dynadot vs NameSilo:
| TLD | Dynadot (reg.) | Dynadot (renewal) | NameSilo (reg.) | NameSilo (renewal) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| .com | $10.88 | $10.88 | $17.29 | $17.29 |
| .net | $12.52 | $12.52 | $15.95 | $15.95 |
| .org | $6.99 | $10.53 | $9.49 | $10.79 |
| .co | $1.89 | $27.04 | $2.79 | $33.99 |
| .me | $5.60 | $17.98 | $9.99 | $19.99 |
| .top | $2.09 | $4.59 | $1.88 | $4.88 |
| .blog | $3.50 | $21.62 | $4.19 | $22.99 |
| .store | $2.50 | $43.02 | $4.99 | $43.99 |
Privacy Protection
You get free WHOIS (now called RDAP) privacy protection from both Dynadot and NameSilo. Just make sure to enable the privacy option for all your domains that support private registration.
Hosting and Email
Dynadot doesn’t offer web hosting, but they have a basic website builder which I haven’t used since I prefer WordPress. They offer a free email account with each domain, and they also have a paid email plan with unlimited email addresses at $20 per year.
NameSilo offers shared hosting plans, but I don’t recommend it because you can get better features and more resources at other hosts. They also offer paid email services from Google Workspace and Titan.
Support Service
I don’t normally need any tech support for domain related issues, but I’ve had a good experience with Dynadot’s and NameSilo’s support teams. Their agents are generally helpful and respond quickly (at least that was the case for me).
Conclusion: Which is a Better Registrar?
Both Dynadot and NameSilo are good domain registrars, but I prefer Dynadot because it has lower prices and a better interface.
